Lectures
Week 8
This week, we learned about the art technique of "chiaroscuro", which is based on creating a sense of three-dimensionality and spatial depth through the strong contrast of light and shadow in a flat picture. The term comes from Italian, meaning "bright" (chiaro) and "dark" (oscuro). Although this technique is more common in the field of painting, its essential principle is also applicable to our current creation - by strengthening the light and dark levels to depict the volume and structure of the object, making the picture more realistic and full of visual tension.
Week 9
This week, I continued to practice with Illustrator, but the focus
turned to how to enhance the visual effect of the background through
gradients. The teacher demonstrated how to use gradient colors to
create an atmosphere and make the background look more vivid and
layered. In actual attempts, I learned how to add emotions and depth
to flat images by adjusting the transition of light and shadow and
the gradient of color. These techniques helped my illustrations to
be more lively and made the overall composition more attractive.
This week's study made me really feel the huge role of color and
light and shadow in shaping the atmosphere in background
design.
Week 10
This week's course was conducted in the form of online discussions.
The teacher communicated with each student individually to
understand the progress of each person in the work, and made
targeted suggestions for modification to help us improve the final
presentation. In the feedback, I gained new ideas and also clarified
the parts that need to be adjusted and strengthened in the future,
which gave me a more comprehensive understanding and control of the
work and laid a good foundation for the next creation.

Task 3:Honor Competition
First of all, after careful consideration, I chose "Cultural
Prosperity · Celebration" as the design theme. And before starting the
design, I found some good works, hoping to find some inspiration from
them.
The choice of lion dance as the creative inspiration stems from
the multiple meanings it carries in traditional Chinese culture: first,
lion dance has been regarded as an auspicious symbol of exorcising evil
spirits, bringing good fortune and wealth since ancient times, which
naturally fits in with the festive atmosphere; second, the lion's
exaggerated eyebrows, flying mane and dynamic jumping posture provide
rich modeling language and strong visual impact for the illustration;
third, elements such as red, gold and flame are closely linked to lion
dance, which can quickly create a festive and warm color atmosphere;
finally, injecting this traditional symbol into modern graphic design
can not only evoke cultural resonance, but also inject positive emotions
such as "vitality", "endeavor" and "prosperity" into the work, which
perfectly meets the needs of multiple scenes such as festivals, New Year
and brand celebrations.
Then I started sketching.

After that I colored the lion dance, adding shadows and highlights
Then add the background and color it.

Reflection :
This three-week comprehensive design task covers three modules:
illustration, accessories and animation. The illustration part itself has to
go through the complete creative process of material collection, sketching,
composition planning and color rendering. Fortunately, the practice
foundation laid in Task 1 and Task 2 allowed me to advance each step in an
orderly and rapid manner; more unexpectedly, through a practical tutorial, I
discovered that Photoshop is not only good at photo editing, but also can
produce exquisite animations - this makes people not only sigh at the power
of the tool.
